Terms Of Service

Effective date: 25 October 2026 · Version: 2026-10-25

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], a [company / LLP / proprietorship] having its registered office at [REGISTERED ADDRESS] ("we", "us", "our"), which operates the LawMuse mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Who may use the service

1.1 The Service is intended for advocates enrolled with a State Bar Council under the Advocates Act, 1961, law firms, and persons working under their supervision (such as associates, clerks and interns).

1.2 You must be at least 18 years old and competent to contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872.

1.3 If you use the Service on behalf of a firm or organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these Terms on its behalf, and "you" includes that firm or organisation.

2. What LawMuse is — and is not

2.1 LawMuse is a software tool that helps you organise cases, clients, documents, notes and reminders, and provides AI-assisted search, question answering and document drafting.

2.2 We are not a law firm and are not advocates for you or your clients. We do not provide legal advice, legal opinions or legal services. No advocate-client relationship is created between us and you or any of your clients.

2.3 The Service does not replace your professional skill, judgment or supervision. You remain solely responsible for all advice you give, all documents you file or serve, and all steps you take in any matter, including compliance with limitation periods, court rules and deadlines.

2.4 You are responsible for complying with the Advocates Act, 1961, the Bar Council of India Rules (including the rules on professional conduct, confidentiality and the prohibition on advertising and soliciting work) and any other rules that govern your practice.

3. Ai-generated content: accuracy, verification and use

3.1 Scope. LawMuse uses artificial intelligence to assist with legal research, document drafting, summarisation, translation and related tasks. These are tools to assist an advocate. They do not give legal advice and are not a substitute for independent professional judgment or for review by a qualified advocate.

3.2 Limits of AI. AI-generated content may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, inaccurate citations or incorrect interpretations of law, and may be inconsistent with the documents provided.

3.3 Your responsibility to verify. You must independently verify material facts, legal authorities, citations, applicable law and procedural requirements against reliable, current sources before relying on, issuing or filing any AI-generated content. Any pleading, application or other document produced with the Service must be reviewed by a qualified advocate before it is submitted to a court, tribunal or authority, served or sent. Placeholders and blanks must be completed by you.

3.4 How the Service helps you check. Citations in AI drafts are limited to judgments retrieved from LawMuse's judgments library and are shown with the court, date and source. A citation is labelled "verified" only when it has been matched to a judgment in that library; any other citation is shown as not verified. Before you mark a draft final, the app lists citations it could not verify, blanks and empty parts, and asks you to confirm your review; a file exported without a current review is marked on every page as not yet reviewed. These checks reduce the risk of error but do not remove it, and they do not transfer your professional responsibility to us.

3.5 No guarantee. Unless expressly agreed otherwise in a separate written agreement, LawMuse provides AI-assisted tools and does not guarantee that generated content is accurate, complete, current or suitable for any particular legal matter, or any outcome in any matter.

3.6 Records of AI work. For each AI draft we keep a record of the text as generated, the authorities and case passages retrieved for it, the instructions given, and later edits, reviews and exports, for as long as the draft exists. For each AI request we keep the metadata described in our Privacy Policy. You can see a draft's record in the app, and we will use these records to investigate any complaint or dispute about AI output.

3.7 Reporting errors and corrections. If you find an error in AI output (for example, a citation that does not exist or a wrong provision), report it from the app ("Report a problem") or to our Grievance Officer (section 16). We will acknowledge the report within 24 hours, investigate it, correct the Service where the fault lies in the Service, and tell you the outcome, ordinarily within 15 days. Where a document you produced with the Service may be affected, we will help you identify, from its record, which parts came from the AI and the sources used, so that you can correct it.

3.8 Cloud AI. How AI requests are processed, and where, is described in our Privacy Policy. If a workspace owner chooses a cloud AI engine, the owner confirms that doing so is consistent with their duties of confidentiality to their clients.

3.9 Court data. Court status, hearing dates, orders and display boards fetched through the Service come from publicly available court records, directly or through a third-party provider. They may be delayed or incomplete; check the official court record before relying on them.

3.10 Confidential material. Do not upload confidential or sensitive information unless you are authorised to do so and have reviewed our privacy and data-handling terms.

4. Your account

4.1 You must provide accurate information when registering and keep it up to date.

4.2 You are responsible for keeping your password, MPIN, one-time codes and devices secure and for all activity under your account. Do not share a one-time code with anyone; we will never ask you for it. You must give an email address and a mobile number that are yours and keep them up to date. Tell us immediately at [SUPPORT EMAIL] if you suspect unauthorised access.

4.3 Fingerprint or face unlock uses your device's own biometric system. We do not receive or store your biometric data. Anyone who can unlock your device with enrolled biometrics may be able to open the app, so enrol only your own biometrics.

5. Your content and your clients' data

5.1 "Your Content" means everything you or your collaborators upload or create in the Service, including case details, client details, documents, notes, drafts and reminders. You keep all rights in Your Content.

5.2 You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process and display Your Content only as needed to provide, secure and support the Service for you. We do not use Your Content to train AI models, and we do not sell it or use it for advertising.

5.3 You confirm that you have the right and a lawful basis, including any consent required under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, to upload and process Your Content, including the personal data of your clients, opposing parties, witnesses and other persons.

5.4 For personal data contained in Your Content, you (or your firm) decide why and how it is processed and act as the Data Fiduciary. We process that data on your behalf, as a Data Processor, in accordance with these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

5.5 Do not upload material that you are prohibited from sharing, such as material under a sealed cover, a confidentiality or suppression order, or a statutory bar, unless you are permitted to store it in a service such as this.

5.6 You are responsible for keeping your own copies of important documents. The Service is not an archive or court-filing system.

6. Collaboration

6.1 A case owner may invite other users to a case or workspace and decide what they can see and do. When you invite someone, you are responsible for the information you share with them and for ensuring that sharing is consistent with your duties of confidentiality to your client.

6.2 Collaborators are bound by these Terms. Removing a collaborator ends their access through the Service, but we cannot recall information they have already viewed or downloaded.

6.3 Client pages and messages. You may share a private, read-only page about a case with your client. It shows only what you choose (the next hearing date, hearings and orders from the court's records, documents you pick and the messages you sent that client). Anyone who has the link (and the access code, if you set one) can open it until it expires or you withdraw it, so send it only to your client. Messages you send through the Service, and the use of WhatsApp or your Google Drive, are on your instructions; you are responsible for having your client's agreement where needed.

7. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • (a) use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or to upload or share content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, infringing, or that falls within the categories prohibited by the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021;
  • (b) use the Service to advertise, or to solicit work, in breach of the Bar Council of India Rules;
  • (c) upload malware, or attempt to disrupt, overload, probe or test the security of the Service without our written permission;
  • (d) copy, reverse engineer, decompile or scrape the Service, or circumvent any usage limit or access control;
  • (e) access another user's data without authorisation, or impersonate any person;
  • (f) resell or sublicense the Service without our written agreement.

8. Plans, subscriptions and payments

8.1 The Service is offered in tiers with limits on the number of cases on which AI features may be used and the number of collaborators across all your cases. The current tiers, limits and durations (1, 3, 6 and 12 months) are shown in the app.

8.2 Launch period. During the current launch period, all tiers are provided free of charge. We may end the launch period and introduce charges by giving you at least 30 days' notice in the app or by email. You will not be charged unless you choose a paid plan after that date.

8.3 Paid plans. When charges apply, prices will be shown in the app in Indian Rupees and, where applicable, will state whether GST is included. Plans are paid in advance for the chosen period and do not renew automatically unless the app clearly says so when you buy.

8.4 Payments are processed by a third-party payment gateway (such as Razorpay). We do not receive or store your full card, UPI or bank account details. The gateway's own terms and privacy policy also apply to your payment.

8.5 Refunds. Except where required by law, or where we are unable to provide the plan because of a fault on our side, amounts paid are not refundable for the unused part of a period. [REVIEW AND COMPLETE THE REFUND POLICY BEFORE ENABLING PAYMENTS.]

8.6 When a plan ends or you move to a lower tier, the limits of the new tier apply. Your data is not deleted, but AI features on cases beyond the new limit, and new invitations beyond the collaborator limit, are unavailable until you are within the limit.

8.7 Free trial and fair use. A new account may get a free trial of all features for the number of days shown in the app (currently 7). No payment details are needed and the trial does not turn into a paid plan. During the trial, and in every plan, the use of AI features and of eCourts look-ups is subject to the allowances shown in the app under Plan & usage, because each of these has a cost to us; when an allowance is used up, the rest of the Service keeps working. One trial is offered per person.

8.8 Referrals. You may share your referral code. A new user who signs up with it gets the longer trial shown in the app. When that user first buys a paid plan, you earn the free days shown in the app (currently 30), added after your current paid plan or when you next buy one, up to the yearly number shown in the app. Free days have no cash value, cannot be transferred and are not given for your own other accounts. We may change or end the referral programme with notice in the app; days already earned are kept. Bar associations may give their members a joining code with a longer trial on the same basis.

9. Availability and changes

9.1 We try to keep the Service available but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may suspend the Service for maintenance, security or legal reasons.

9.2 We may change, add or remove features. If a change significantly reduces a paid plan you have bought, you may cancel it and receive a pro-rata refund of the unused period.

10. Intellectual property

The Service, its software, design and trade marks belong to us or our licensors. These Terms give you a limited, personal, non-transferable right to use the Service; they do not transfer any intellectual property to you. If you send us suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.

11. Security and confidentiality

11.1 We maintain reasonable security practices and procedures for the information we hold, as required by section 43A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules under it, and by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the rules under it as they come into force.

11.2 These include: encryption in transit; encryption at rest of stored documents and of sensitive records, with the keys kept separately from the data; separation between customers, with access checked on every request for a case, document or client; least-privilege access for our personnel; access and security logs; monitoring for attempts to reach other customers' data; backups; security testing; and a documented incident-response plan.

11.3 We treat Your Content as confidential and allow our personnel to access it only where needed to operate, secure or support the Service, or where required by law. We use cloud AI providers only under terms that do not allow them to use Your Content to train their models, after reviewing their data-retention and sub-processing terms; the providers in use are listed in our Privacy Policy.

11.4 No system is completely secure. If we become aware of a personal data breach affecting Your Content, we will inform you without undue delay with what we know (what happened, which data, when, what we have done, and what you may wish to do), so that you can meet your own obligations to your clients, and we will notify the Data Protection Board of India, CERT-In and others as the law requires.

12. Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by applicable law, and subject to sections 3 and 13, the Service, including all AI output, is provided "as is" and "as available". We make no warranty that the Service or its output is accurate, complete, legally sufficient, fit for a particular purpose, or free from errors.

13. Limitation of liability

13.1 You remain responsible for checking AI output and for what you file, serve or send (sections 2.3 and 3).

13.2 To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, business, clients, goodwill or reputation, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, even if it was foreseeable.

13.3 To the extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, and (b) INR [AMOUNT].

13.4 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for fraud, for wilful misconduct, or where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable law, and nothing affects rights that the law does not allow to be waived.

13.5 These limitations reflect the nature of the Service as an assistive tool and its price, and each applies separately.

14. Indemnity

You will indemnify us against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content, your breach of these Terms or of any law, your professional conduct, or any claim by your clients or other persons relating to your use of the Service, except to the extent the claim, loss or cost is caused by our breach of these Terms or our negligence.

15. Suspension, termination and deletion

15.1 You may stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account at any time from the app or by writing to [SUPPORT EMAIL].

15.2 We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users. Where reasonable, we will give you notice and a chance to export Your Content.

15.3 After your account is closed, we will delete Your Content from our active systems within [30] days, and from backups within [90] days, except where we must keep information to comply with law.

16. Grievance officer

In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the rules under it, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, our Grievance Officer is:

Name: [NAME]

Email: [GRIEVANCE EMAIL]

Address: [ADDRESS]

We will acknowledge a complaint within 24 hours and try to resolve it within 15 days of receipt.

17. Governing law and disputes

17.1 These Terms are governed by the laws of India.

17.2 Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be referred to arbitration by a sole arbitrator appointed by us and you jointly, under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The seat and venue of arbitration shall be [CITY] and the language English. Subject to this, the courts at [CITY] have exclusive jurisdiction.

18. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. We will tell you about material changes in the app or by email. The app will ask you to accept the updated Terms before you continue using the Service. If you do not accept them, you may close your account.

19. General

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent; we may transfer ours to a successor of our business. Notices to us must be sent to [SUPPORT EMAIL].
